Rodent Surgical Services: Overview
Surgical procedures are performed on rats, mice, and guinea pigs at five of
our AAALAC-accredited production facilities in the United States, as well as at
Charles River facilities in France, Germany, Italy, Japan, and the United
Kingdom. Our specialized surgical services include:
Our biosecurity procedures ensure that the health status of the rodent model
is continuously maintained from the breeding facility to our barrier-type
surgical suites with their dedicated laminar flow workstations and filter-top
caging systems.
Our Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) governs the surgical
process, including any post-operative holding in our facilities prior to
shipment. Please read our
Reference Guide: Surgical Capabilities to review the IACUC policies and
veterinary practices that guide our Surgical Services Program.
