Genetically Engineered Models and Services: Cryopreservation
Our cryopreservation services provide an efficient alternative for maintaining nucleus colonies that are currently not in use to help protect against microbiological contamination, catastrophic accidents, and possible cessation or alteration of genetic expression in later generations.
-
Embryo Cryopreservation: Our professional staff will gladly assist you in determining the quantity of embryos to cryopreserve, the most appropriate mating scheme, and the most efficient procedure for embryo collections. In vitro quality control to indicate the success of cryopreservation is performed on every batch of embryos. Our cryopreservation procedures regularly achieve greater than 95% survival of frozen embryos.
-
Sperm Cryopreservation - Sperm is collected from the caudal epididymis and vas deferens of the male reproductive tract, treated with a cryoprotective agent, aliquotted into cryotubes, cooled, and stored in liquid nitrogen. We recommend cryopreserving sperm from at least two germline carriers, less than six months of age
Cryopreserved embryos, sperm, or a combination of both, can be taken for immediate delivery, or can be maintained at our facilities. Inventories maintained at Transgenic Services will be divided between two separate locations for additional security. Upon request, lines can be reconstituted and breeding colonies re-established.
