Zebrafish Genetic Testing
The zebrafish (Danio rerio) is a small tropical fish which reproduces
rapidly, produces optically clear embryos, and is amenable to both forward and
reverse genetic analyses. For these reasons, the zebrafish has emerged as a
powerful model organism for elucidating vertebrate developmental pathways. Due
to the high degree of conservation with other vertebrates, the zebrafish is
becoming an important tool for many areas of biomedical research, including
cancer biology, cardiovascular disease, aging, and toxicology. We offer a
variety of nucleic
acid-based services to genotype transgenic and mutant zebrafish models:
- Zygosity and carrier status determination via PCR, QPCR, or SNP analysis as
appropriate for your model
- Copy number determination of transgenes using QPCR
- Expression testing of specific genes of interest, transgenes, and gene
knock-downs via quantitative RT-PCR (reverse transcriptase PCR)
- Microsatellite analysis for mapping, fine mapping, background strain
characterization, speed congenics and genetic quality control applications
Our scientific staff is available to customize assays to your specific
needs. We offer a rapid turnaround time and a variety of results reporting
options. Additionally, Charles River Laboratories offers
Aquatic Research and Consulting Services to assist in the design and
management of your aquatic research program.
